DIY Hanging Basket Wreath with Tulips for Spring
Give your front door a fresh and charming update for spring with this easy DIY hanging basket wreath! Instead of a traditional wreath, I used a basket filled with beautiful faux tulips to create a welcoming seasonal look. I was shopping at Michaels and found the cutest hanging basket, but then I remembered I had an old backpack-style basket at home—so I gave it a try, and it worked perfectly! With just a few floral stems and a simple basket, you can put together this stunning spring decor piece in minutes. This is also a great project to use a thrifted basket as well.
What You’ll Need:
- A hanging basket (or a repurposed one like mine!)
- 3-4 spring floral stems
- A wreath hook

How to Make Your Own Tulip Basket Wreath
- Choose Your Basket – I used a backpack-style basket I already had at home, but any hanging basket with handles or a loop will work. You can use a seagrass basket, rattan tote, or even a wall pocket-style basket.
- Pick Your Florals – I bought three floral stems on sale at Michaels: one large bunch of fluffy white tulips that draped beautifully over the edge and two smaller greenery/white floral sprigs for filler.
- Arrange the Stems – Start by placing the largest floral bunch in the basket, letting the tulips spill over the front slightly. Then, tuck in the smaller sprigs to add fullness and depth.
- Hang It Up – Simply hang the basket from a wreath hook using its handle or straps. Adjust the florals as needed to create a balanced, natural look.
- Enjoy Your Beautiful Spring Wreath!
Choosing the Perfect Basket
A great thing about this DIY is that you can customize it with different baskets! If you don’t have one on hand, look for options like woven seagrass baskets, wall-mounted baskets, or even small market totes with handles. I’ve rounded up some beautiful basket options that would work perfectly—shop my favorites here.

I used a backpack style basket and it turned out so cute! It was actually a free item that came with skincare or something I purchased years ago and I’ve since seen them at thrift stores.

Best Faux Floral Stems for a lush look
The right florals make all the difference in this wreath! I loved how the fluffy white tulips I found at Michaels draped naturally over the basket edge, but you can also try peonies, hydrangeas, or wildflower stems for a different look. Adding in some greenery sprigs will give the arrangement a fuller, more organic feel. Find my favorite faux florals (and the vases) here.
