A few years ago I planted a row of limelight hydrangeas along side my house hoping that one day they’d fill the area I planted them in. Well they definitely did! This year they grew wildly so I have an abundance of them for cutting and need to do some trimming and shaping of each plant.
If you have limelights how did they do this year? Mine were nice and full on the bottom and then all had a few random long shoots in the middle making for pretty crazy looking hydrangeas 😀

When I was brainstorming on what to do for my fall front porch this year I kept coming back to the hydrangeas. I decided to add them to one of my taller planters and then add a full pot of them on their own as well. It ended up turning out to be a beautiful dried floral arrangement that cost me nothing.

How to secure the dried hydrangeas
I needed a way to secure all the hydrangeas so they wouldn’t blow away and decided the best way was to add some dirt to a pot and stick them in there. This also allowed me to water them for a few weeks and I think it helped them hold their color a little longer before drying. I had some help in the garden while I was filling my pots.

How to make the arrangement
To make your arrangement cut some stem from your hydrangea bush. I used 7 stems in a single pot and about the same added to my taller planter that also had kale and mums in it.
Hold up the stems to your planter to see how long you should cut the stems and trim them. I laid out all my stems on the ground and chose the largest one to place in the middle and then added the others around it.

An easy and free way to add tons of beauty to your fall decor and front porch! I love how these turned out and I will probably do this again in some way next year!

This is the perfect arrangement to enjoy all fall and through Thanksgiving …if you can wait that long before switching over to Christmas! I paired mine with white mums, green kale and white kale. And I also added a sprig of feathery grass from Hobby Lobby to one of my pots.
Let me know if you add dried hydrangeas to your fall displays and decor!
