Spooky tree inspired Halloween mantel

This year for Halloween I was inspired to use a natural element in my decor and came up with this spooky tree inspired Halloween mantel. I got the idea to use some twiggy branches and add faux fall leaves to them. I was totally prepared to take Poppy off the beaten path at the park to scan the ground for some potential branches but soon realized a few trees in my own yard needed some trimming which perfectly provided the sticks I needed! If you don’t have that in your yard don’t be afraid to scan the ground at the park or near the landscaping in parking lots for fallen sticks and branches…I mean you’re pretty much helping clean up the area by removing them 😉

I bought one spring of fall leaves from Michaels to use with the branches. The leaves pulled off the stems very easily and I used my glue gun to attach them to the branches. This seemed to take forever because you had to hold the leaf in place for several seconds while waiting for the glue to set up. Since I only had so many leaves I divided them up first according to how many branches I wanted them on.

I knew I wanted the branches to be upright to fill the space between the mantel and the ceiling so I decided to put them in vases. I used four thrifted vases and although they are all different they are similar enough in color and size to work here. I used a DIY Happy Halloween sign and bats that I made last year on my silhouette cameo. For some reason I thought to use painters tape on the back of the bats to adhere them this year and I’m so glad I did! It worked great and did not damage the wall at all. Lastly I got a pack of hanging candles and used half here and the other half is hanging outside my front door – they are so fun!

It turned out great and all in all it was pretty inexpensive. If you have a mantel do you decorate it for Halloween? Thank you for checking mine out!
